Sex Discrimination Commissioner says “industry action” is key
22 June 2022

Today the ABA had the privilege of hosting Sex Discrimination Commissioner Kate Jenkins a ‘fireside chat’ about her work, in particular the Respect@Work and Set the Standard reports.
She inspired the room with what she’s learnt, sharing insights from hundreds of interviews and the ‘lightbulb moment’ that points towards future change.
“The reality is this is a systemic issue. Joint industry action is the solution. It’s not bravery that’s required – it’s leadership.”

“This is not just individual misconduct – just a few bad blokes or bad people, this is a systemic societal issue driven by power imbalance, gender inequality and lack of accountability. So the best way to address that is as an industry. If it was just one thing that could fix sexual harassment – we would have done it. My aim is to work out faster what isn’t working and get to what is working.”
