New climate policy provides ‘huge opportunities’ for banks

AFR: Australian banks are confident the Albanese government’s climate policies will help unlock more capital to finance the energy transition.
Push for recognition of the ‘Australian context’
Banks want regulators to allow them to fund resource projects and recognise that Australia’s emissions intensity is different from its international competitors, particularly in Europe.
The Australian Banking Association says it supports any action by the Council of Financial Regulators to introduce a globally aligned “taxonomy” to finance the energy transition “that also accounts for the Australian context”.
